During May 1st to May 29th, avian community research has been conducted in Zhalong. 45 species has been recorded. Of these birds, 25 species are belong to Palaearctic realm, 18 species are Iosmopolitan, 2 species are belong to Oriental realm. 36 species are summer breeders, 4 species are residents and 4 species are migrants. The similarity of avian communities decline along the succession gradients, and are higher between two coterminous succession stages. The influence of burning is less than habitat xerophilization. The guild plotted by Jaccard coefficient matrix could reflect habitat succession more effectively, while guild plotted by Cobbyβdiversity index matrix could reflect habitat succession more effectively. During water compensation restoring period in Zhalong, Water level variance creates some isolation to avian community.Biomass and species richness could reflect environment variation. There are significant linear relationship between community characters and environment.Habitat and water level selection of the birds show relative independence. Population variation of grey heron (Ardea cinerea),spot-billed duck (Arias peocilorhyncha),great reed warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaeeus),red-crowned crane (Grusjaponensis),carrion crow (Corvus corone),white-winged tern (Chlidonias leucopterus ) could indicate the water environment of wetland ecosystem in Zhalong.Mallard (Anas platynhnchos) is the indicator of avian community biomass. Great reed warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus ),red-crowned crane (Grus japonensis ) are the indicator of species richness. Barn swallow is the indicator of species diversity.Eurasian skylark (Alauda arvensis ),northern lapwing (Vanellus vanellus),reed bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus ),barn swallow (Hirundo rustica ) and yellow wagtail (Motacilla flava) have a better function in indicating habitat types, while great reed warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus),red-crowned crane (Grus japonensis ),yellow wagtail (Motacilla flava),whiskered tern ( Chlidonias hybrida),white-winged tern ( Chlidonias leucopterus) and spot-billed duck (Anas peocilorhyncha) have a better function in indicating water level. During water compensation period, birds show a higher selection in water environment than in the habitat types.
