Groundwater resource has very important function in ensuring the domestic water of urban and rural residents of our country, supporting the development of social economy, and maintaining the ecological balance. Especially in arid or semi-arid region that lacks of surface water resource relatively in northern part of our country, the scarce water resource and worsening water environment has become the key question to restrict the social economy and environment benignity development of this area, groundwater even more is not substitutable strategic resources. In the recent several dozens years, the investigation of groundwater resources and research work of groundwater environment have almost been deployed in the large-scale sedimentary basin in northern part of China. In order to understanding and grasping the distribution of space-time and circulation renewal rule of groundwater resource in northern part of our country scientifically, exploiting and utilizing groundwater resource reasonably, and implementing the sustainable utility strategy of our country groundwater resource, need to comparative study the land water cycle rules in northern part of China.The paper chooses the typical basins (Hebei plain, Taiyuan basin, Eerduosi basin, Yinchuan plain, Chaidam Basin as well as Tarim basin) in northern part of our country as the research area, comprehensive analysis massive investigation and research findings, emphasized on comparative study terrain landform, climatic change, geology-hydrogeological conditions, quaternary geology, mans activity influence and so on, especially on the basis of contrasting groundwater isotope chronology information, has analyzed the land water cycle characteristic, region rule and the otherness.The results show that: 1) Groundwater isotopic composing and age constitution of the typical basins in northern part of China exist intrinsic characteristics which may contrast. Under natural condition, followed the direction of groundwater flow and the increased buried depth, or from recharge area to area of discharge, the tritium values decrease gradually, the 14C ages increase gradually, and the groundwater renewal ability decreases gradually, has regularities of distribution in levels. 2) Climatic change since the epipleistocene has had the leading effects to the groundwater circulation and hydrology geochemistry function of each big basin. 3) Mans activity has already seriously affected the region groundwater circulation, and was the immediate cause of occurrence of each kind of environment geology question. 4) The worsened tendency of groundwater environment of each big basin in northern part, is the result which affected by the arid climate and the influence of mans activity. 5) Need to dissect the climatic change since the epipleistocene and the influence of groundwater circulation by mans activity to understand the groundwater cyclic process, the environment isotope technology is essential to open out the form of groundwater resources and the renewal changes of groundwater circulation.
