Thomson scattering based X-ray radiation source, in which a laser beam is scat-tered off a relativistic electron beam resulting in the generation of a high-energy X-raybeam, is a new kind of X-ray source that has been developed with the advancementsof the accelerator and laser technology since 1990's. It can provide ultra-short pulseduration, high-peak brightness, tunable and monochromatic X-ray , and is useful ina number of fields including medical imaging, solid state physics, material science, chemical, biological and industrial applications. Tsinghua University Accelerator lab-oratory is planning to built a Thomson scattering X-ray source. Study on the Thomsonscattering X-ray source is being carried out. This dissertation inculdes theoretical re-search and preliminary experiment of the thomson scattering X-ray source.First, the relations of the beam parameters between the X-ray and electron andlaser at interaction point based on the linear Thomson scattering model are studied. The formulas for the pulse length and yield of X-ray photons at arbitrary interactionangles between electron and laser are deduced. The in?uences of some nonideal fac-tors, such as laser bandwidth, electron energy spread and emittance, interaction pointand synchronization errors on the X-ray parameters are studied. The second part of this dissertation is concentrated on the Thomson scatteringX-ray measurement by means of the 16MeV backward traveling wave electron linacand the Q-switched YAG nanosecond laser system. A 177 degree interaction anglesbetween the electron and laser is selected. Also the beam transport system, vacuumchamber, beam measurement system, synchronization system and detector system aredesigned and fabricated.
