Nowadays, the multiple and severity of landslide hazard have a direct impact on the sustainable development of social economy and all aspects of the life. Risk assessment is the important part of hazard risk controlling and reduction of hazard losses. Risk assessment is a comprehensive study which involved both natural sciences and social economic theory. The paper have done some research on the risk assessment theory of landslide hazard, analyzed the status quo of landslide hazard in XinPing County. Based on the result above, the paper builds a risk evaluation index system, and then carries out empirical study of risk assessment of landslide hazard in Xinping County.The paper analyzes the system of landslide hazard and the relationship between the elements. Based on this, the paper consider that risk assessment of landslide hazard include hazard evaluation and vulnerability evaluation.According to the survey result of the social economy development situation and the geological conditions in Xinping County, most of geological hazards in Xinping County is landslide hazard. Geological condition is the basic factors of landslide hazard formation. Topography is the main controlling factors. The rain especially the rainstorm is the dominant factor of landslide hazard in the region. Human economic activity is one of the important factors to promote the development of landslide hazard.Then the paper analyzes the evaluation indexes of landslide disaster risk, and builds a risk assessment index system of landslide hazard. The index system includes hazard evaluation and vulnerability evaluation. Hazard evaluation includes the historical hazard evaluation and potential hazard evaluation; vulnerability evaluation includes the demographic and economic vulnerability evaluation.Based on the risk assessment index system of landslide hazard, the paper carries out the empirical research of the landslide hazard risk assessment in Xinping County Yunnan Province. Hazard evaluation use data-driven-weight model to determine the index weight, and use a comprehensive assessment model to calculate the hazard; vulnerability evaluation use factor analysis to calculate vulnerability by SPSS; Finally, according to the definition of risk, use the formula risk = hazard * vulnerability to evaluate the landslide hazard risk in Xinping County. Based on the evaluation results, the Xinping County should be divided into four risk rating, which is high risk, medium risk, mild risk and non-risk.
