In order to develop SHSPB (Split Hopkinson Pressure Shear Bar) testing technique, this dissertation try to analyses the feasibility and settle theory and experimental problems.First and foremost, we recall the general methods of combined compression-shear loading at high rates and mainly introduce the main idea of SHPSB. After it, the dissertation brings out the main issues which are necessary to be researched. After introduction of elastic bending wave, we think that the propagation of wave can be analyzed by means of elastic bending wave. Finite element analysis software LS-DYNA3D has been used to analyze two simply models of loading, and get result that longitudinal and bending wave propagate independently in the model.Also, detailed simulation of the SHPSB experimental process is taken. Stress states in specimen are analyzed and the result indicates that the specimen averaged stress state is uniform. Thus, SHPSB technique is considered as the method which gets the averaged dynamic response of materials. Furthermore, the study indicates that the measure methods of compression and shear stress are rational.By improving the standardized experiment, we get the constant parameters of shear gauge. Inaccuracy is taken in account about SHPSB experiments, and the effects on the results of experiment are analyzed.By a contrast of the experimental results of SHPB and SHPSB (specimen touched freely) experiments, we are to be of the opinion that the relationship between measured incidental strain and loading incidental strain is reasonable. In the dissertation, we design a kind punch experiment and make a contrast between the results of punch and the results of SHPSB experiment on the same material. Finally, we consider that SHPSB technique reflects the dynamics of material properties reasonably. Also, a kind of longer specimen is tested by SHPSB, and the damage models agree with the curves of experimental results.In the end, the dissertation points out what we need to continue improving, specially, on the system of measure and the issue of multiply stress states in specimens.
