GPS position terminal of vehicles has became the focus of automobile industry in past ten years. In European countries and Japan, GPS position terminal of vehicles is widely used in recent years. GPS position terminal of vehicles is modern high-tech system compose of Global Positioning System and wireless communication technology etc. The main function of GPS position terminal of vehicles is get GPS data from satellite with GPS module, send the car's dynamic position(longitude,latitude,time,speed) to supervising center through wireless communication link, and receive control command from supervision center. Nowadays, most vehicle supervising system use GSM communication network, and communicate with short message method can not fully meet the needs of practical applications. However GPRS(General Packet Radio Service) is a efficient data transmission networks based on packet switching technology, using IP data network agreement, can make up deficiencies of GSM networks. GPS position terminal of vehicles not only used in intelligent traffic system but also used in anti-theft, bus reporter stations, material flow bus arrange etc.The author particularly describes the theory of GPS, analyses the morms of GPRS, and doing many research about ARM embedded system. After these hard works the author proposes a whole solution of GPS position terminal of vehicles that depended on ARM processor. The project use AT91RM9200 as hardware, porting ARMLinux system to the processor and programme in the system. The project of GPS position terminal of vehicles can offer real-time supervision. The real work has came into test step, and the test effect was good.
