There is abundance of geothermal resource buried under Dezhou city, which is the mainnatural resource in that region. The previous exploration results show that the Guangtao groupgeothermal reservoir is of a big porosity and a high permeability. It is the main geothermalreservoir in the area with abundance of heat resource as well as hot water resource. Theexploitation of geothermal resource has become one of the hottest investment choices, but thelack of knowledge about the amount of the resource would hamper the healthy development ofthe geothermal business in a long run. Therefore, it is very important to carry out an intensiveinvestigation into the Guangtao group geothermal reservoir, verifying the quantity of thethermal resource and hot water resource, which will provide a guideline to the geothermalresource's regulation and administration.Based on the investigation of the geothermal backgrounds such as the regional geotectoniccondition, the strata's distribution, regional hydrogeologic condition and ground temperaturedistribution, the paper makes a full discussion about the geologic conditions of the Guangtaogroup geothermal reservoir, and clarifies the geochemical property, recharge and dischargecondition of the geothermal reservoir, verifies various geothermal parameters, puts forward aconceptual model about the Guangtao group geothermal reservoir. The paper makes anappropriate estimation of the thermal resource as well as the hot water resource, the resultsshow that the total heat resource in the reservoir is about 3.14×1018J, and the usable thermalresource is about 7.86×1017J, which reaches the big geothermal field's criteria; Theexploitable hot water resource is about 116.4 thousand cubic meters per day. which can beclassified as big water supply field.The paper also shows that the hot water is corrosive to metals, and erosive to normalcement, but non-erosive to sulfate-resisted cement. There will be no calcite, gypsum andsilicate scaling problem during usage, but will precipitate ferro hydroxide, So ferro eliminatemeasures is recommended. Since the hot water is rich in healthy traceelement. it can be usedfor medical purpose and aquaculture.In addition, the paper also gives a discussion about the environmental problems will beinduced by the geothermal exploitation, which shows that the heat pollution, and groundsubsidence will be main environmental concerns. So it is suggested that ground subsidencemonitoring and wasted water reinjection works should be carried out during exploitation.
