Helmet-Mounted Displays was firstly proposed by Ivan Sutherland of Harvard in 1968,and designed to a Helmet-Mounted Displays of CRT.With fouty years development, MHelmet-Mounted Displays have made a great progress and had a wide application.A perfect HMD optical system should be light-weight and compact. To comply with these requirements, two methods are described to improve the conventional HMD optical system in this paper. The first one is basing on the traditional eyepiece, substituting the doublet of traditional eyepiece for hybrid diffractive-refractive singlet. And the second one is a novel optical system of transmissive AMLCD helmet-mounted display which adopts binary optics elements to correct aberrations, takes the holographic helmet visor as the eye-safe optic glass, and the relay system which was necessary before is canceled.Comparing with the traditional ones, these models have smaller size, lighter weight with better aberrations performance. At last,a hybrid head-mounted display using for lightweight night vision is designed.
