Jiangling Depression is the largest subbasin in Jianghan Basin, developed on the pre-Cretaceous basement. Jiangling Depression lies in the western part of the Jianghan Basin.Using the conception and methodology of basin analysis and basin modelling, structural geology, and seismic interpretation, we do the research on the development of stratum, classify the structure sequence and study tectonic feature and describe the depression history, combining the results of modelling.Analysis of the distribution, character and combination of the main fault, the structure cells, the character of the tectonic framework and tectonic style in the depression is defined. The study shows that, the margin fault dominated the subsidence of the depression. During the era of basin evolution, structure belts have different fault combination and model of depositional system, which dominate the different pattern of trap and sedimentary area. The subside history of the stratum segment is studied in quantification from Cretaceous to Paleogene period in particular area of Jiangling Depression. It points out the relationship between fault development and sag evolution. The Jiangling Depression experienced four episodes of crack and subsidence since Cretacaous: Cretacaous episode, Shashi and Xingouzui formations episode, Jingsha formation episode, Qianjiang and Jinghezhen formations episode. During the subside history, the subsidence of Cretacaous and Xingouzui formations were on the lagest subsidence rate.Combined with structural framework, subside evolution, soure rocks, reserviors and regional seals, predict four favorable exploration belts in the depression: Wancheng Fault and Bump district, Baling Mountains– Jingzhou Anticline district, Wancheng– Mituosi– Zifusi depressions district and Southeast slope of the Jiangling Subbasin.
