With the rapid development of embedded technology and digital communication technology,the civilian GPS technology has been used in the various aspects of our lives.Getting smaller and smaller,multi-function,easy-to-use,low cost are the GPS equipment development directions.GPS systems consist of 24 satellites to provide us,the three-dimensional position,and UTC at any place,at any time.Features of the GPS are high-precision, all-weather,high-efficiency,multi-purpose,easy to operate,widely used and so on. Because of these features,the GPS system not only can be used for surveying, navigation but also can be used in many other aspects.With the development of embedded technology GPS receiver degree of automation is higher and higher. Receiver size is getting smaller and smaller and lighter。Because of it measurement workers' works greatly reduce.People use GPS technology from the fields of expertise gradually expanded to areas such as vehicles to the civilian operation and management,stolen vehicle tracking,the field of search and rescue the wounded, with the electronic map as a destination for navigation,and so on.Its lower prices make more ordinary people to enjoy the convenience from it.With the extensive application of GPS technology,it takes people's life a great convenience,greatly improving work efficiency.Therefore GPS technology has an extremely broad application prospects.In this paper,first of all I Introduce the GPS system status,development and feasibility and necessity of the handheld GPS receiver.Second is about component of the GPS system,the generating,transmitting,receiving of the signal.Third,some expositions about the current mainly GPS receiver design.Details of the GPS signals modulation,transmission,positioning method.Focus on analysising the of the GPS signal acquisition and tracking methods in the receiving process,and some of them been simulated by Matlab.Connection with GPS and Arm processor in two designs. Linux system GPS Module-driven preparation and some of its corresponding code.At last I design the framework of GPS positioning navigation software that is lack of in Linux platform and do some analysis in Mapinfo format document.Embedded technology be combined with GPS technology,exert real-time, flexibility of the GPS technology and small,multi-function,high efficiency advantages of the embedded technology.With the open-source Linux platform will make the design of GPS receivers more flexible and effective in reducing design costs. This object is very meaningful to the development and application of the GPS technology.
