The spectral properties and upconversion luminescence characteristics of Er3+-doped and Er3+/Yb3+-codoped electrio-optic PLZT ceramics have been studied in the thesis. The experimental and theoretic results have particularly great importance for the application of optical amplifier devices, monolithic multifunction compact devices, integrated optical devices, upconversion devices etc. As follows are the main contents in the paper:1. The upconversion luminescence characteristics of Er3+-doped electrio-optic PLZT ceramic were studied. Base on the rate equation theory, a model for the dynamics of frequency upconversion in Er3+-doped PLZT transparent ceramic was proposed. The upconversion fluorescence spectrum was measured under 980 nm exciting. The dynamics of the upconverted emissions were studied to evaluate upconversion coefficients (C22 and C33) by solving the rate equations of the model and fitting the experimental curves. According to the solutions, the evolutions of state populations of Er3+ ions system under the pump of 980nm laser were drawn and the upconversion luminescence mechanism of the Er3+ ions in Er3+:PLZT was studied.2. The upconversion fluorescence spectra of Er3+:PLZT exciting at 980 nm were measured under different temperature. Using the rate equation theory and the fluorescence intensity ratio method, the upconversion luminescence intensities curves of Er3+:PLZT as a function of temperature were fitted and the intensity ratio of the red emission to the green emission (I2H11/2/I4S3/2) in Er3+:PLZT relative to the temperature were confirmed.Then, we studied the temperature investigation of frequency upconversion in Er3+-doped PLZT excited at 980 nm.3. The photoluminescence characteristics pumping at different wavelengths in Er3+-doped electrio-optic PLZT ceramic were investigated in theory. Under different pumping intensity and different Er3+-doped concentration, we compared the photoluminescence characteristics, and then analyzed the effect of ETU and ESA to the photoluminescence.4. The absorption spectrum, the fluorescence spectrum and the upconversion fluorescence spectrum of Er3+/Yb3+:PLZT were measured. The optical radiative properties of Er3+/Yb3+-codoped PLZT were studied based on Judd-Ofelt (J-O) theory. At the same time, the upconversion luminescence properties of Er3+/Yb3+ in PLZT were analyzed briefly under 980nm excitation.
