Mine collapses become higher and higher frequent in recent years, which result that buildings deformate and collapse, cultivated lands damage, water wells become dry and abandoned, scenic spots destroy, etc. In doing so, they pose a significant threat to urban-rural economic development and life of residenter in particular. Mine collapse has been studied by many professionals in different countries during past several years, and lots of good productions have been got. At the same time, risk assessment as a new approach to control and management of geological hazard has become more and more concerned about especially in research domains of debris flow and landslide, However, the mine collapse risk assessment has not received serious attention it deserved up to the present yet, and the approach of risk assessment is urgently needed because it is only through hazard risk of mine collapse that it is difficult to achieve the aim of control of mine collapse. Therefore, an approach to risk assessment of mine collapse is presented based on analysis of domestic and abroad present studying situation interrelated studying area and do some reference on risk assessment of geological hazard such as debris flow and landslide in this dissertation. Such jobs as follows have been finished in order to achieve the whole research goal: (i)the study on the theoretical system and the model of mine collapse risk assessment;(ii)the study on the approaches to hazard assessment, vulnerability assessment, capability assessment of disaster prevention and mitigation;(iii)the discuss on acceptable risk and sufferable risk and risk management;(iv)the explanation on the process of risk assessment depending on an example. Some main conclusions and productions from this research are as follows:(i) The theoretical system of mine collapse risk assessment on the basis of the disaster system theory is discussed and studied, then the model and the approach of assessment are presented in this dissertation. Finally one conclusion is that the risk assessment is supposed to involve with hazard assessment, vulnerability assessment, capability assessment of disaster prevention and mitigation and the risk judgement by acceptable risk and sufferable risk.(ii)Life and property as different hazard bearing body are divided to risk assessment in this dissertation, that is to say, life risk and economic risk are presented separately corresponding above both different risks.(iii)The frame of factors of hazard assessment is built and the hazard degree is calculated by using fuzzy mathematics method and hiberarchy analysis method.(iv)A new approach of vulnerability assessment is present after plenty of analysises on present assessment methods is done.(v)The system of factors of capability assessment on disaster prevention and mitigation is built and its quantitative assessment by hiberarchy analysis method is done in this dissertation.(vi)An attempt on study of acceptable risk and sufferable risk is finished, and its importance in risk management is discussed, then the frame of risk management in which acceptable risk and sufferable risk are regarded as the risk ruler is presented.(vii)Applications on these approaches to risk assessment hazard assessment, vulnerability assessment and capability assessment of disaster prevention and mitigation are illustrated with a mine in Liupanshui city. In conclusion, these approaches are much exercisable and of great practicality.
