Based on remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS),using ERDAS IMAGINE and ARCGIS software, referring to the Taihu area topographic maps, geological maps and other information, the dissertation studies the thrust structures of the Taihu area through field geological inspection and landsat ETM + data processing and analyzing with ERDAS IMAGINE and ARCGIS.First, ETM+ data were reprocessed with color enhancement, image integrate, space stretch, texture analyzing adaptive filtering etc. Based on the spectral characteristics of its image and characteristics of the spatial structure, the dissertation has reached further understanding about the large fault zone in the region and the fault system. In addition, based on the region's geological and topographic data and field verification, the dissertation summarizes the interpretation signs of thrust areas through analyzing the texture, color and other characteristics, and analyzes the thrust pattern of Taihu region. semi-constructed window, semi-klippe, PoLiang- JiangTong are one of the most notable achievement of the applications of remote sensing technology, which has not only confirmed the existence of the thrust of Taihu region, but also formed further understanding of the geometric shape and the exposed surface area of the thrust. Then, based on the water distribution information in Taihu area obtained through the spectral characteristics of ETM+ data and with reference to the topographic maps and geological maps, the dissertation concludes that the north west fault of Taihu region is roughly the same with the internal water distribution of the Dabie Mountains. This also proves the southward thrust movement of Dabie Mountains. Finally, the dissertation puts forward a three-dimensional landscape view of Taihu region according to DEM data, which shows the thrust of the in Dabie Mountains, is obviously phased, and the imbricate thrust fault parallel to the thrust direction is the clear and can be easily seen in the three-dimensional images.
