Nanomaterials have been known as an important material in the 21st century. Carbon Nanotubes is the most representative and the most outstanding performance material in nano-materials. Carbon nanotubes cylindrical appearance is a kind of one-dimensional quantum wires. At home and abroad ,the relationship about the optical properties and the band structure of carbon nanotubes is in-depth study. With strong optical anisotropy, Carbon nanotubes can be a costly traditional UV polarizer alternatives;Carbon nanotubes have a very strong nonlinear optical properties,three nonlinear optical effect ,which can be done excellent in optical limiter and high-speed switch.In this paper,the method of preparation of carbon nanotubes and the growth mechanism were introduced. The impact factors of the chemical vapor deposition of carbon nanotubes prepared ,the electronic structure of carbon nanotubes and the relationship of semiconductor(or metal) and chiral of single-walled carbon nanotubes were discussed;The interaction of the polarized light and carbon nanotubes ,the mechanism of optical anisotropy of a single-walled carbon nanotubes were analysised using semi-classical theory. The calculation result indicates that absorption is in proportion to cos 2θ, hereθis the angle of optical polarization direction and axis of cnts. And the third polarizability of single-walled carbon nanotubes, Optical limiting of single-walled carbon nanotubes were calculated. The effect of optical limiting of single-walled carbon nanotubes will be very obviouse when the diameter of carbon nanotubes increase, the chiral angle of carbon nanotubes decrease.
