In this study, a semiconductor laser sensor measurement method is proposed. This method is a type of optical measurement method, which would not be effected by the conductivity of the flow. By using several laser semiconductor sensors ,which were fixed at a section , the flow characteristics can be analized more detailedly.S-transform analysis method was used to process the the signal which got from the gas-water and oil-water flow loop test. At first, a simulation of the S-transform analysis method worked out that the S-transform method has better collectivety and frequency resolution than the Wigner-Ville method. . Referring to the analyse result of the laser laser sensor signal, it is proved that the S-transform method can nicely differentiate the flow pattern of the gas-water flow, the transition pattern involved. Farther more, the Box-Counting dimension of the signal was extracted .The results show that the bubble flow has more complex dynamics characteristics, and the Box-Counting dimension is decreased when the flow pattern changed from bubble flow to slug flow which indicating the decrease of the dynamics characteristics, and the Box-Counting dimension increased when the flow pattern changed from slug flow to churn flow which indicating the increase of the dynamics characteristics. This study indicates that the semiconductor laser sensor measurement method can help to reveal the two phase flow pattern characteristics and is an effective measurement method of two phase flow.
