As the oil and gas exploration and development have come into the mid-end term in Liaohe basin, it is difficult to keep output stabilization, and it's short of succeed hydrocarbon resources. At the beginning of periphery three dimensional seismic exploration, we get low S/N ratio in mid-deep seismic profile because of the nature conditions, seismic and geology conditions and means of acquisition, it cannot satisfy the request of the structure interpretation, it restrict the oil and gas exploration seriously in this area. This paper develop the definition of the width azimuth seismic exploration technique, and the requirement for the selection of the width azimuth acquisition parameter. Through research of the application examples of width azimuth in many scientific research institutes and production units, combined with the practical background of Longwantong concave in periphery basin in Liaohe oilfield. We carried out a thorough analysis, and find a practical acquisition geometry method suitable for operation in this area.By the research in this paper, we know Longwantong Sag is the typical low S/N ratio area in Liaohe Basin, the reason is the collective influence of surface, deep structure and deep lithology. The bad quality of old data was due to the recording instrument and production method. The suitable acquisition geometry can improve the quality of data in this area effectively. The width azimuth seismic acquisition was adopted in Longwantong Sag can reduce the disturbing of surface dispersion, and improve the S/N ratio, resolution and fidelity of seismic data. The width azimuth acquisition technology was adopted in Longwantong Sag successfully, so we finished the 300sqkm 3D width azimuth seismic acquisition in the Lujiapu area in periphery basin, and we have got outstanding results. This paper is the first time to research the periphery basin seismic acquisition technique from geometry aspect. There would be some shortages in this paper, author will perfect it step by step in the future research.
