The theories of complex systems and complexity are the burgeoning sciences, whose research method is another revolution for scientific methodology since 21st century. The researches needed for complex systems and complexity in natural phenomena, society, military, economy management, biology and engineering impose a great challenge to the current theories and methods of simulation. While the novel Swarm-Based Modeling and Simulation methodology, which is the hot topic today in simulation field. The earthquake disasters rescue system is a complex system with the characteristics of large scale, complicate structure, non-linear. It is hard to describe and analyze them with the math methods or other formalized methods. So we have to simulate the earthquake disasters rescue system by complex system model. Based on the theories of complex systems and complexity, this paper has conducted research on Swarm-Based Modeling and Simulation methodology and problems relevant to the simulation of the earthquake disasters rescue system. The purpose of the paper is to make Swarm-Based Modeling and Simulation become a perfect theory of simulation, which can instruct the research for complex systems.The complex adaptive system theory and method were summarized and remarked, the study background and method were also expounded. Then the earthquake disasters rescue system was defined and based on the two aspects of complex adaptive system, named character and mechanism, the complexity and adaptability of earthquake disasters rescue system are dissertated.Swarm was a platform for simulation of complex adaptive system and also was the ideology summary and methodology of complex system simulation. The basic thoughts, characteristics and application fields of Swarm were stated systematically. After that, based on the framework of Swarm, the agent, message, complex systems and agent-based simulation were defined and represented formally. Thereafter, according to the module of Swarm, the Swarm models for agents of earthquake disasters rescue system were established.According to the requirement of Swarm methodology, an agent-based modeling and distributed simulation software framework including agent simulation models was put forward firstly. According to the framework, a prototype of agent-based distributed simulation environment, named agent-based earthquake disasters rescue simulation system was implemented based on Java.On the base of the above parts, we simulate the earthquake disasters rescue process using the Swarm simulation platform. And then under the parameter of all agents and parameter of environment, we plot the changing trend graph of the number of the victim with the time in the earthquake disasters rescue process. And the variational status of victims with the process of rescue simulation was established. .This paper established the simulation model of earthquake disasters rescue system by the complex adaptive system theory, and simulated this model on the Swarm platform. Based on the Swarm, which is a method of modeling and simulation, the earthquake disasters rescue system is analyzed and the relationship between macro behavior and micro behavior of the system is researched, aim to realize and control the behavior of the earthquake disasters rescue system. Result of this experimentation showed that the outcome of the simulation and the fact of earthquake disasters rescue are identical basically, so we can conduct that complex adaptive system method and Swarm for earthquake disasters rescue process are effective and feasible.
