SWP is one of the most excellent plasma in the sense of large area and uniformity,high density and stability plasma.In this dissertation I aimed the purpose of making large area and uniformity,high density and stability plasma,made comprehensive and deep studies.In this paper,we discusses the parameter characteristics of large area planar SWP to measure their performance.An experiment SWP system consisted of two microwave launchers(upper and side microwave launcher) has been developed for producing large volume surface wave plasmas in our laboratory.The experimental investigation shows that comparable uniformity plasma with not only large volume but also high density properties has been obtained by the two launchers.We adopt the dielectric rod waveguide to guide the microwave to excite the plasmas.The results show that,when the plasma density is less than their critical density,the surface wave in the plasmas is decay wave while in the dielectric rod it propagate as the Bessel function.But when the plasma density reaches their critical density,the surface wave propagates in plasma and dielectric rod are both decay wave. Some interesting experiment phenomena of light patterns that appeared in microwave plasma have been investigated.The wavelengths of the SPP at a dielectric-plasma interface have been calculated as the functions of incident wave frequency and plasma density.The comparison of our experiment results with the calculating result has been carried out.By experimentally and theoretically analyzing,the phenomena were considered to be caused by the surface wave of SPP at the interface of Pyrex wall-plasma.The surface wave of surface plasmon polariton at the interface of dielectric-plasma has its own characteristics other than that in the interface of Pyrex wall-plasma,e.g.,visible and larger dimensions of physical phenomena,more changeable parameters.So it is more flexible and intuitionistic for studying the behaviors of SPP at a dielectric-plasma interface compared with that at a dielectric-metal interface.
