The paper reviews the Paleozoic rugose research history in brief, concludes Paleozoic rugose corals research achievements after the founding of New China since 1949. Many rugose research institutes were founded and the number of coral specialists was increased. With the accumulation of the data concerning the rugose corals, there were some important progresses on the rugose classification and evolution. These made possible the various attempts in the synthetic and systematic classification as well as palaeobiogeography and palaeoecologic studies of Paleozoic rugose corals. The paper discusses the achievements of rugose structure and classification in each geological time periods. Rugose classification and evolution are described in details based on geologic times, spatial distribution and describing people. Based on the rugose characteristics, the paper concludes the rugose data and makes the rugose distribution map by using Arcview software. The paper collects the rugose assemblage zones in Palaeozoic and Late Palaeozoic periods after the founding of New China. It concludes the different biogeography research methods, and analysis rugose paleogeographic map. From the eighties of the 20th century, it was a new stage after using new theory and methods. It brings new opportunities to the rugose research. The combination of paleobiology and theory paleobiology mainly reflects the studies of mass extinction and F/F catastrophe event. The paper discusses the three Extinction Events in brief. The last part denotes three important aspects deserving of more attention in future research of Paleozoic rugose corals. Firstly, classification is the premise and foundation of rugose research in future. The second is interpenetration and cross research between rugose and other subjects. The third is the application of new research techniques and methods.
