In the recent of information society, it is necessary to transmit much higher capacity of data with high speed, the high information processing system is needed urgently. Interconnection networks are the major components in telecommunication systems and multiprocessor computer systems, they have been a very active research field in the international. With development of optical network and optical communication, and the introduction of conception of optical swap, it is necessary to make full use of the inherent parallelism of optics to develop free-space optical interconnection networks. It should be noted that the integrating of interconnection networks is the key for practical applications, optical cross-connects in free-space is one of the current topics in the world and its integration is one of the keys for practical applications. There for, optic interconnect technique is a nuclear technique in optic interconnection networks, and the packaging of parts of the optic interconnection is one of the keys to be resolved in the optic interconnection networks'study and development. The matrix of electro-optical switch in a single-block crystal is the key element of all-optical cross-connects, and is mainly used for switching or exchanging optical signals in optical communication and optical computing. In this dissertation, the optical implementations of crossbar networks' integrated and its control algorithm are investigated, on the base of integrated optical 2×2 switches. The details are listed in the following:1. An integrated n×n crossbar network is designed, which consists of 2×2 switches and crossbar interconnections. The 2×2 switch is implemented using the electro-optic effect of crystal, and the interconnection between two neighbor switch stages are formed based on both the phenomena of double refraction and internal double reflection of crystal. The network is integrated in a single- substrate of birefringent crystal with electro-optic property. Two kinds of basic configurations are discussed. One is oblique incidence of inclined input beams (and output beams), which is low operating voltage. The other is normal incidence of parallel input beams (and output beams), which is easy to cascade. The n×n crossbar network is low energy loss, low cross talk, easy to assemble, insensitive to environment. It is well suited for use in optical networks.2. As the theory of crossbar networks, there is not only one control algorithm. A control algorithm of oblique incidence of inclined input beams (and output beams) is proposed. The control algorithm includes confirming both of the location and the states of the switches, which are a signal through. Controlling the states of the switches, it may achieve the non-block interconnection between any input-output pair, and carry out the integrated of non-block crossbar interconnection networks.
