Shengtuo region is located in the north steep slope of Dongying depression, bounded to north by Chenjiazhuang heave, to south by Lijin sag and Minfeng sag. Shengtuo oilfield develops in the researched area, and the accumulative total proved reserve of it has been 5.25×108 ton till 2008, occupying a quarter of the total reserve of Dongying depression. The hidden oil pools have been the explorative emphases in this area, and the glutenite segment has been the most important target among these hidden oil pools increasingly, since the exploration of Shengtuo region has been to high degree. To clear the exploration potential of glutenite segment in Shengtuo region, the research of sedimentary system developing of the formation of Sha-4 to lower Sha-3 member, reservoir distribution rule, reservoir froming mechanism and exploration targets slection, etc.were made.The formations in the researched area were divided and correlated by using the principal of high resolution sequence stratigraphy based on the formation characteristics of the oilfield.This paper classifies the formation of Sha-4 to lower Sha-3 member as 4 the sequence sets, 9 sequences, and builts the isochro-stratigrphic frameworks in Shengtuo region. Using core, logging, well logging, seismic data and so on, it can conclude that the area developes fan delta, sublacustrine fan, deep water turbidite fan and total 6 kinds of sediemntary facies. The technologies of synthetic seismogram, seismic forward simulation, etc. are used to clarify seismic reflection characteristics of kinds of reservoirs and 18 sandstone bodies with the square of 18 km2 are recognized and delineated. Based on the genesis and shape, the found reservoirs can be generalized as 3 types, i.e. lithologic reservoirs, composite reservoirs and structural reservoirs. The control factors and distribution rules were researched about the different types of reservoirs by typical reservoir dissecting. Combining the syntherically geological research result, the interest targets were selected to locate well site. In all 7 targets were put forward, among which 3 targets were adopted that the predicted play area was 18 km2, the predicted reserve is 1560×104 ton. And 2 wells have been drilled that both have commercially found hydrocarbon and made good exploration purpose, while the controlled reserve was 620×104 ton. This paper makes the main exploration play beds and size of glutenite segment in Shengtuo region clear and makes a significant instructing function for the following exploration and deployment synthetically.
