Wave is an important element of ocean environment which impact most on harbor and coastal engineering, marine engineering and marine transportation. In this paper, a combination of wave elements statistics, analysis and numerical simulation is made. In order to obtain more accurate results than the traditional method of wave statistics,the third-generation deep-sea wave model (WAVEWATCH III) is applied to simulate the sea wave field of the Northwest Pacific before analysis of the wave elements is made. This paper includes two parts which are numerical simulation of wave field and analysis of wave elements.Firstly, the numerical model which is built with WW3 is driven by the QSCAT/NCEP blended winds together with the digital data of topography. The accuracy of the simulation results is verified by the following facets: First, the QSCAT/NCEP wind data is validated to have high reliability after being compared with the observational data. Second, the bathymetry of the Northwest Pacific Ocean (NPO) is digitally transformed from the latest bathymetric charts. At last, the comparison between the simulation results and observation data indicates that the correlation coefficient is greater than 0.9.Secondly, statistics and analysis of wave field are made according to the simulation results of a whole year's wave elements in NPO. This paper make a conclusion of the changing law of wave in NPO, at the same time, how the meteorological factors such as monsoon affect the wave field is demonstrated. Furthermore, a post-processor system which integrates data analysis and graphic display is established, a comprehensive evaluation is presented after analyzing the time and spatial distribution of computational results.
