DTM (Digital Terrain Model) is the digital expression of the surface of the earth. At present, the DTM usually include contour model, regular grid digital terrain model, and irregular triangulated network digital terrain model. All of these DTM do not present the feature of the terrain. They contribute to the difficulty of updating, querying from graph to the attribute of the features and vice versa. Therefore, the author presented a Digital Terrain Model based on features after analyzing the current DTMs. The main research works include:1. The basic terrain features are summarized, the mathematical definition of geomorphology features is given in this thesis.2. A Digital Terrain Model based on features is presented, and the representation method of the geomorphology features is designed in a primary stage.3. After analyzing the current reference, the author developed an algorithms of geomorphological structure line extraction methods based on the curve bending. It gets the important feature points based on the change point of the angle clockwise (or anti-clockwise) direction, and gets the line feature by connecting the important feature points.4. Verified theory and algorithm of the thesis based on the "Digital Village Incremental Update System" using Visual C + + 2005 kernel development technology.
