Natural disaster is a kind of extreme or sudden environmental change, Nowadays, how people especially the common people respond to or adapt to this change effectively is generally paid more and more attentions to by the academe than ever before. However, the existing researches about the cognition on and response to the earthquake disasters of the social public were quite few. In this thesis, by taking the 2007 Ninger Earthquake with Ms 6.4 as the case, some characteristics of the cognition on and response to earthquake disasters of the common people in this earthquake-hit area were analyzed based on questionnaire survey, and some adaptive measures on raising the local people's ability of disaster-releasing were also discussed. The main conclusions are as follows:1. The total level on cognizing and responding the earthquake disaster of people in Ninger area is rather low, and the lowest part is earthquake disaster knowledge. Further analysis shows that the earthquake disaster-responding ability of the people with integrative score rates lower than 0.65~0.7 are better than their earthquake disaster-cognition levels, and the people with integrative score rates higher than 0.65~0.7 are just on the contrary.2. The group differences of people cognizing and responding to the earthquake disasters in Ninger area are prominent, and the main differences are as follows:â‘ As the age of samples grows, the score rates of all the cognition-and-response variables present the trend of increasing before decreasing. the people aged between 25 and 39 behave the best on cognizing the earthquake knowledge, the people aged between 52 and 54 are more active and rational during the earthquake disaster.â‘¡As the education level of samples grows, the score rates of the cognition-and- response variables increases obviously in the mass. Separated by the education level of senior high school, the cognition-and-response ability of people in Ninger represents contrary features: The group below the education level of senior high school has a higher ability on responding to the earthquake disaster, while the group above that education level behaves better on cognizing the earthquake disaster. The analysis of partial correlation shows than the positive correlation coefficient between education level and the cognition variables is higher than that between education level and the response variables. One possible reason is that knowledge and theory are emphasized, while skills and practice are ignored in the traditional education.â‘¢There are significant differences in the cognition-and-response variables among different occupation groups. The occupation group with higher education level has higher ability of coping with earthquake disaster. The score rates of cadre group keep high in all the cognition-and-response variables. The cognition levels of farmer and student groups are significantly lower than that of other occupation groups.â‘£The cognition-and-response level of male are relatively higher than female. Significant differences only exist in the variables of earthquake knowledge and self- and mutual-rescuing in the earthquake among the groups with different nationalities.3. The questionnaire survey conducted 4 months after the earthquake took place shows that in the high-intensity areas (areas with intensity VIII or VII), the local people are more aware of self- and mutual-rescuing in the earthquake and behave actively, their cognition-and- response ability changes congruously with the intensity order. In these areas which are severely shocked by the 2007 Ninger Earthquake with Ms 6.4, people have better cognition on the earthquake disaster knowledge and are more positive in the earthquake or 4 months after the earthquake took place when the questionnaire survey was being conducted.4. In the area with intensity VIII, the cognition-and-response ability of rural group is much lower than that of town group. At the same level of self-evaluation, the town group represents higher ability on cognizing and responding to the earthquake disaster. The rural group behaves better on self- and mutual-rescuing in the earthquake than other 3 aspects; the disparity of the average score rates between the two groups on self- and mutual-rescuing in the earthquake is relatively low.5. There is a significant positive correlation between the responses and cognition degree of people in Ninger area. The cognition degree of local people has a deep impact on the actual response in the earthquake, that is to say, people who have a higher degree of cognition on earthquakes usually have more active and reasonable responses; inversely, the active and rational responses accelerate the desirability and effect of local people on cognizing the earthquake disaster. Especially, the influences of disaster-releasing skills in the response of the earthquake are more significant than the influences of earthquake disaster knowledge.6. During the process of self- and mutual-rescuing in the earthquake, the people in Ninger area are more inclined to make positive evaluation on the function of disaster-releasing skills which are more practical than earthquake knowledge. The experiences of earthquakes play a positive role in earthquake prevention and disaster reduction.7. The people in Ninger area usually learn the earthquake knowledge and disaster-releasing skills through traditional and believable approaches. After the Ninger Earthquake with Ms 6.4 took place, the local people are more inclined to get correlative knowledge and skills of the earthquake from authoritative media and the government, the authoritative media includes broadcasting, TV, newspaper and so on. The student group and rural group have strong desirability on learning the earthquake knowledge and disaster- releasing skills, they have enormous potential of cognition. School education doesn't get any advantages as expected.Based on the conclusions above, 3 adaptable measures are advanced, hoping to raise the local people's ability of disaster-releasing pertinently and pragmatically. The measures are as follows:â‘ Strengthen propaganda on earthquake disasters, especially on the disaster-releasing skills which are more practical and instrumental.â‘¡Pay more attention to the student group and rural group and raise their ability of earthquake prevention as well as disaster-releasing.â‘¢Strengthen the emergency maneuver.
