The design and fabrication of beam sampling grating (BSG) are investigated theoretically and experimentally in this paper. The main contents are as follows:Firstly, the significance of the research of the inertial confinement fusion (ICF) and the process of the research on the beam sampling grating are presented. Begin with the using condition of BSG, by reasonable setting relative optical parameters, the structure of beam sampling grating pair is designed which meets demand of optical path compensation. Applying genetic algorithm to optimize eight location variables which is related to the strip structure of gratings to achieve the aberration-free goal; also its image quality is analyzed with wave front aberration theory.Secondly, based on the designed optical structure, by use of ZEMAX optical design software and the ZPL program language, holographic recording parameters of grating pair is optimized. That provides a new method for designing aberration-free grating-pair.Due to the difficulty in experimental realizing micron dimension of theoretical precision, based on the contrivable millimeter magnitude precision, the error-compensation method of fabrication and utilization structure is proposed, the compensation result and the error adjustment range is estimated in theoretical, meanwhile the procedure of experimental adjusting is introduced.Finally, small apertures BSGs are fabricated. The detecting system is established. According to this system, the measurement results of BSGs are given and analysis between experimental results and theory calculation are show. The results indicate that such optical structure of grating-pair could eliminate aberration and prove that theoretical design is feasible in practical.
