Since 1991, the first offshore wind farm has been built, the wind farm installation is always a key issue in building an offshore wind farm. The installations of wind farm began with a combination of jack-up platform with barge, then in 2003, developed the first specialized wind farm installation vessel, May flower resolution. Now another kind of installation vessel of M/S Sea Energy has come into reality, as a result, the construction speed of offshore wind farm has been dramatically increased. Offshore wind farm construction attracts more and more attentions all over the world.These years, to make full use of the substantial offshore wind energy, the project of constructing offshore wind farm has been on agenda. Meanwhile, wind farm installation vessel design is a big challenge. This paper is for studying this kind vessel. For the relatively short history of wind farm installation vessel, the relevant researches are very few out of the world and even no researches exist in our country. The research achievements of this paper are very important for the flowing study of wind farm vessel.In the paper, the developmental process of offshore wind farm installation vessels, the advantages and disadvantages of these vessels are demonstrated. In particular, the paper introduces the ship form, general arrangement and equipments, structures of leg and spud can. What's more, an idea of damping device has been proposed. The paper illustrates all the operational cases, their features and some key points of each case during one whole task. By using the computation formulas, wind load and current load of this vessel are obtained; establish the FE model of hull and leg by the usage of software of PATRAN, we can achieve the wave load by software of computation; then establish detail leg structural FE model, impose boundary conditions and external loads, leg structural strength was analyzed by software of NASTRAN; establish FE model of leg and fixing device with different materials, boundary conditions and dynamic loads with different frequency are imposed, tension stresses of leg in different cases are achieved by transient dynamic analysis, after analyzing the results, we can know how the Elastic modulus and frequency of load affect the leg's stresses.
