Nonlinear optical (NLO) crystal materials, especially ultraviolet (UV) NLO material have attracted much attention due to their potential application in laser device. this paper focuses on UV NLO materials.Firstly, the crystal growth of K3[B3O4(OH)4]·2H2O (KBOH) was investigated, and the large scal size (20×10×8 mm3) crystal was obtained. It crystallized in the orthorhombic space group Pna2(1) with a =7.8274(16)(A|°),b = 13.714(3)) (A|°),c = 8.9531(18)(A|°), Z = 4, R1 = 0.0302, wR2 = 0.0745. It was characterized by Powder X-ray diffraction, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, TG-DTA, UV/Vis/IR, and the properties of NLO were characterized by second harmonic generation (SHG), phase-matching and deliquescence. The powder SHG intensity measured is about one half times that of KH2PO4 (KDP). The transmission range is from 190 to 2650 nm. The results showed that the KBOH crystal was a potential UV NLO material.Secondly, the crystal growth of Rb[B5O6 (OH)4].2H2O(RBOH) was investigated. The crystal size is about 12×9×4 mm3. It crystallized in the orthorhombic space group Aba2 with a = 11.3029(16) (A|°), b = 10.9632(17)(A|°), c = 9.3291(13)(A|°), Z = 4 and R1 = 0.0355, wR2 = 0.0768. It was characterized by Powder X-ray diffraction, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, UV/Vis/IR, and its property of NLO were characterized by SHG. The powder SHG intensity measured by the Kurtz–Perry method was about one third times that of KDP. The transmission rangel is from 180 to 1400 nm. It is proved that the crystal is a UV NLO material.
