In recent years, human activities have threatened greatly to natural ecosystem. The continuous pressures on earth ecosystem succession may cause decrease even loss of ecological integrity. Ecological integrity evaluation for a specific region has been one of prospective research field in ecology, which is of great significance to protection of regional eco-systems and biological species.Based on the introduction of the theoretical basis and assessing methods of the ecological integrity, the concept of ecological integrity, the choice and establishment of evaluation indicators and models are discussed, the regional ecological integrity in 2000 and 2008 are evaluated integrating MODIS images (MOD13A2, MOD17A2, MCD12Q1 product data, etc.) and the soci-economic data in this paper. Based on the analysis of ecological integrity concept and the influence factors of ecosystem, the vital signs of the ecological integrity for Changbai Mountains derived from remote sensing data and soci-economic data are determined, and thereby the evaluation index system of regional ecological integrity are established. An ESSI(ecological integrity index)model is proposed using weight approach to estimate the ecological integrity in Changbai Mountains, technical support in GIS. The result will not only provide basic data and theoretical basis of ecological integrity researches but also help to make rational countermeasures of natural resources utilization and environment protection.
