The attenuation of ground motion parameters has been studied for decades since it is an important part of earthquake resistance in structural engineering and the core of analysis and evaluation of earthquake hazard, as a result, many accomplishments have been obtained. With the development of the economy, more and more new style buildings are appearing, which requires amendment of our seismic design codes so that we urgently need to learn the characteristics of ground motion parameters more clearly. In recent years, the characteristics of long period part of ground motion have gotten more attention in the engineering field. However, the data we can get is limited by the earthquake magnitude, so the relevant work is just at the beginning. The happening of Wenchuan earthquake has provided us with a large amount of ground motion data, especially a lot of high quality data from far field, which contains many recordings about long period characteristics, so we can do the needed jobs based on these recordings. In this thesis, we start the relevant research from the following parts:1. Introduce the Wenchuan earthquake and the data we got from the ground motion stations concisely as well as the necessary and meaning of studying attenuation.2. Elaborate the main factors that affect earthquake ground motion and 3 most used methods for evaluating earthquake ground motion parameters and their advantages and disadvantages respectively. Introduce the history of ground motion attenuation research and the latest results studied by U.S. Demonstrate the basic characteristics of ground motion in near-fault area and far field.3. Fit the attenuation relationships for ground motion peak acceleration, earthquake response spectra and ground motion duration by a direct nonlinear regression analysis that is also called"the least square method". And then analyze the characteristics of these 3 parameters in detail and point out their features and how to apply these parameters into the actual engineering considering these characteristics.4. Give the conclusions of this thesis and plan how to develop a further program in the future.In this study, we obtain a lot of knowledge about ground motion attenuation and get some useful conclusions through calculating and analyzing,...
