Rayleigh observations were carried out during the year 2002–2010 at Wuhan Insti-tution of Physics and Mathematics(31?N, 114?E). From the 107 sets of Rayleigh Lidarprofiles, 32 cases are chosen and analyzed in order to describe the gravity wave(GW)climatology in the 30–55km altitude range at mid-lower latitude. The GW induced per-turbations of atmospheric temperature are calculated, followed by analysis of its spatialspectrum and GW potential energy density. The linear fitted vertical wavenumber spec-tra of observed GWs exhibit power law dependencies. The mean slope of the spectrais ?2.30±0.23, which is consistent with other lidar observations made at various lat-itudes. The GW potential energy per unit mass in stratosphere as well as the seasonalvariations are also presented. GW activities seem to be stronger during winter monthsthan those in summer, which agree with other observations made at different locations. The seasonal mean in winter of the GW potential energy density is 14J/kg, twice thevalue in summer which is 7J/kg.
