All-optical information processing devices have become the key of all-optical information networks. Photonic crystal provides a new way to design the all-optical information processing device, due to its advantages such as controlling of photon, small volume and quality, flexible structure design and so on.In this article, the fractal structure is introduced into one dimensional photonic crystal. Three new style fractal photonic crystals are designed. The properties of these fractal photonic crystals are simulated and analyzed by using Transmission Matrix Method. On the other hand, we discuss the photonic crystal apply to optical filter, detailed analyze the impact of fabrication error on the filter properties of photonic crystal filter and propose a way to eliminate this ill impact. Its main contents comprise the following aspects.First of all, the study background and method of photonic crystals are mentioned, and the characteristics, preparations, applications and simulation methods of photonic crystal are introduced. This article gives theatrical derivation of the Transmission Matrix Method. On the other hand, the theory of fractal is introduced, the properties and applications of fractal is discussed.Secondly, we bring the fractal structure into the design of one dimensional photonic crystal. The characteristics of each new style fractal photonic crystal are simulated and analyzed. The new properties and rules of photonic crystal cause by the new fractal structure are gained.Thirdly, we design a quasi-fractal one dimensional photonic crystal and discuss its application in optical filter. The impact of random thickness fluctuations on the filter properties is analyzed. We gain a result that tolerance of random geometric thickness fluctuation of this kind of photonic crystal filter is only 0.01nm. Finally, the property of photonic crystal filter containing defect layer is studied. We discuss the impacts on the filter property by not only the random layer thickness error but also the input light angle error. By adding proper bias voltage on the defect layer which is made up of polystyrene, we can eliminate the ill effect caused by layer thickness fluctuation and input light angle and calibrate the pass band of photonic crystal filer to the designed frequency.
