Using the results of seismic interpretation data of layer interpretation data and fault plane interpretation data, developed the method of fault properties calculated for researching the nature of the fault, serving the oil and gas fields exploration and development. Calculating fault properties with seismic data is the latest fault research method in the world. Fault properties can be used to study the relationship between fault and oil-and-gas transmission,fault sealing characteristics and so on, have a very large prospect in the oil-and-gas exploration and development, especially for old oilfields on later stage to adjust injection-production pattern,solve conflicts injection,understand the distribution of remaining oil, improve the old oil recovery.Fault properties essentially include fault geometric elements: trend,dip,strike,curvature etc.; fault dynamic elements: fault displacement,slip of fault,growth index etc.. Through consulting correlative literature,method, this article have sumed up computational methods of the above properties, after that, associated the real seismic data, analyzed a few faults, finally we used the results, analyzed the relationship between fault seal and fault properties.We support local fault plane as a plane in three-dimensional space, and then compute the local fault plane based on 3D plane fitting by using optimization technology controlled by coherent radius, after that we can calculate fault occurrence three elements, namely trend,dip,strike; fitting interpreted layer data and corresponding fault plane data by using space interpolation and linear regression, seek crossing points of interpreted layer and fault plane automatically, calculating fault dynamic elements, namely fault displacement,slip of fault,growth index; using curve fitting technology to account degree of crook of the fault plane. We accomplished algorithm specifications in Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 compiling system. The final experiment results show that the methods we have used above can obtain fault properties comparatively exactly. Ultimately we used the properties obtained, combined with a mature work area of Shengli Oilfield, analyzed the relationship between fault sealing characteristics and fault properties, gained a corresponding conclusions.
