Biodiesel oil, as one kind of biomass energy and an alternative to petroleum diesel, is a kind of renewable, green and environment-friendly energy. However, glycerol as a by-product is yielded at about 10% of biodiesel during the process of biodiesel production, which being an important obstructive factor to impede the development of this industry. The aim of this work is to co-product methanol and EG through glycerol hydrocracking. First, based on thermodynamics calculation, the best temperature obtained is about 400K and pressure is 3MPa under the ideal condition, and the best temperature is up to 500K and pressure also is 3MPa under the real condition. Then we investigate the effects of the molar ratio of glycerol and hydrogen on the conversion and yield of reaction. Then, by preparation of catalysts Pt and Ni-W2C, and the appraisal of tank stirred reactor, we advance the preparation methods of the two catalysts, and obtain the proper reaction conditions by factorial experiment. The results show that different loadings of Pt on the catalyst Pt/Al2O3 have a great effect on catalytic activities, and if the loading capacity of Pt is about 2.5%, the conversion of glycerol is 64.8%, and yield of EG and methanol are 31.6% and 33.2% respectively. For Ni-W2C/AC, if the loading capacity of Ni is about 2%, the conversion of glycerol can be as high as 64.8%, and yield of EG and methanol are 64.0% and 21.1% respectively, which are higher than that of Pt/Al2O3.Last, on the basis of using Ni-W2C/AC catalyst, we investigate the effects of the time, temperature and pressure as well as stirring rate and Ni content to our reaction.
