In recent years, optically active polymers have attracted much attention because of their unique functions such as molecular recognition, optical resolution for racemates and catalytic activity in asymmetric synthesis. In general, bulky side-chain and hydrogen bonding are in favor of the formation of stable helical conformation for polymers, which endows them with high optical property and some special performance.In this dissertation, the status of optically active polymers with helical conformation are reviewed and the synthesis of optically active helical poly(unsaturated ketones) with bulky pendants are carried out. 4-Methylpent-1-en-3-one, 4-ethylhex-1-en-3-one, 4,4-dimethylpent-1-en-3-one, 2,2,5-trimethylhex-4-en-3-one,2-phenyl-1-(pyridine-2-yl)prop-2-en-1-one,1-(furan-2-yl)-2-phenylprop-2-en-1-one. 1,2-diphenylprop-2-en-1-one and 4,4,4–triphenylbut-1- en-3-one were synthesized. The structure of these compound was determined by using 1H NMR and 13C NMR.The radical polymerization of theα,β-unsaturated ketones mentioned above was studied. Using AIBN, BPO or TPO as an initiator and SanlenCo (Ⅱ) or the l- menthol as chiral environment, we has attempted polymerization of those monomers. monomers were smoothly polymerized with different chiral anionic initiator .
