Owing to the advantages of low cost, easy processing, corrosion resistance and reusable, polypropylene (PP) has been widely used as packing in the chemical indust. However, there are still many problems that need to be resolved, such as surface wettability of packing. In this thesis, the surface wettability of PP was improved and a new composite was prepared for packing.A surface modifier named MCP was prepared, blended with PP to improve the surface wettability of PP and studied in detail. The influences of MCP content, aftertreatment time, aftertreatment temperature and other process factors on film-forming on blends plane were analyzed. When the MCP content came up to 40%, the film-forming ratio on PP plane was increased from 10% to 90%, film-forming was significant improved. The mechanism of film-forming on PP/MCP plane was discussed from surface properties, and water- blends plane interface thermodynamics (liquid-solid interfacial tension, adhesion work, invasion work, spreading work). The mechanical properties of composites were decreased a little, however, the heat distortion temperature(HDT) were enhanced after surface wettability of PP was improved by blending MCP. When the content of MCP was 45%, film-forming on blends plane by adding inorganic fillers (mica, talc and glass fiber), the content of which was less than 30%, would not be degenerated, and mechanical properties were increased and HDT could be enhanced 51℃. On the other hand, the anti-swelling property of two formulations of PP composites in diethanolamine solution was researched and it was checked to have good anti-swelling property. Finally, the process technology of packing made by new material was studied in detailed. It was important that the preheat time of plate should be regulated accurately, because it effected structure of corrugated plate in molding process. Two batches of structured packing were prepared for absorber test. The result showed that the mass transfer performance of PP composites packing after wetting modified was enhanced about 20%.
