Casting is a very important part of modern manufacturing with its wide range of applications and development speed. Among many kinds of hot die steel, H13 steel is the world's most widely used within the hot work die steel which is used to forging die, hot extrusion die and non-ferrous metal casting mold and so on. Such steel is Cr, Mo, V as the main strengthening elements, it has good strength and toughness, while maintaining high fatigue resistance to meet a variety of performance required by the mold. Not only this kind of steel can withstand high temperature tension and compression shock, but also can withstand high temperature and wear, oxidation and thermal shock of cold shock cyclical temperature changes and other harsh work environment. The main failure is the aluminum alloy die-casting mold damage in the form of hot melt thermal fatigue and efficiency, therefore, the life of H13 steel depends on two factors: first, dose the occurrence of mucosal happen? Second, dose there turtles cavity surface crack happen? Failure is usually caused by the surface of the mold started, thus requiring a higher surface hardness, wear resistance, anti-adhesion properties. From saving energy and resources into full play the potential of material properties and obtain the maximum economic benefit specific properties and starting the mold of H13 steel surface modification, a comprehensive and effective way is used to improve the die life. This paper describes the principle of plasma spray technology, methods and process. The quality of the coating, spray coating process and process parameters on hardness, wear resistance, mold release and other aspects are analyzed. In order to improve the surface properties of die steel and the life of aluminum alloy die-casting mold, the paper uses the plasma spray technology on the H13 steel substrate to fabricate aluminum and alumina oxide coated titanium. After the main factors being determined, the circumstances of aluminum oxide and aluminum oxide coating's titanium micro-hardness were tested to determine the hardness of coating and a significant factor in primary and secondary factors and to optimize the coating process parameters. And optimal parameters were validated test.Scanning electron microscopy, hardness measuring instrument, friction and wear tester are used to measure and study the coating surface morphology and coating performance, etc., and the two coatings are compared that aluminum oxide coatings by high hardness, good wear resistance, low coefficient of friction, wear less weight loss, and its melting point to 2050℃, high temperature; while at the production site, both the coating and the practical application's mold release coatings were compared. The minimum average stick of aluminum oxide aluminum is 5.4g, while compared to the other two, it is with a larger gap with them. The average viscosity of alumina titanium aluminum content is 30.45g; the average water-based release agent for the aluminum stick is 51.25g. This is not only a qualitative analysis, but also made a quantitative measurement, which makes a reliable basis to improve the surface properties of cast aluminum die casting mold.
