The technological demand for high quality and long lasting finishes with improved corrosion resistant in industries such as automotive, aerospace, fastener and electrical component has played a major role in the development and use of zinc-tin alloy coatings. It is necessary means to ensure safe, high quality, fast, efficient and scientific industries.Compare to zinc coating, there are many benefits on zinc alloy plating. It has drawed attention due to its high temperature tolerance, corrosion resistant and low hydrogen evolution. Aim to promote domestic zinc-tin electroplating to further development of automation and intelligent direction, based on a large number of references, this article indicates the problems of development of electodeposition technology; it describes the development status and trends of domestic and international additives in alloy electrodeposition. New technology of zinc-tin alloy electrodeposition system in the plating process is founded which are used for enhancing the nature of zinc-tin alloy electroplating. It has been reported that zinc-tin electrodeposition can be done from a new Ionic liquid based on a mixture of choline chloride and ethylene glycol. This bath system is non-toxic, high temperature tolerance, environmental. Like in the other baths, some effective additives are necessary to be added into the electrolyte during the process in order to obtain better zinc-tin deposits and improve the electroplating behaviour. Many works have done to find some effective additives for the Zn-Sn electroplating and investigating the effects of these additives in this kind of new electrolyte.
