Polycarboxylic acids,as non-formaldehyde,Crease-resistant finishing agents,have the most brilliant prospect industry. Among them,1,2,3,4-Butaneteracarboxylic acid (BTCA) is the best one.In this paper,first,BTCA is synthesized by oxidation of male-ric anhydride with nitric acid,and the structure is characterization.Then,the finishing technology of BTCA on silk,cotton fabrics are studied intensively. Based on study of effects such as the amount of BTCA,catalysts and their amount,temperature and time,on the finishing parameters such as weight-increase ratio yellow-ness,whiteness,WRA,the optimum finishing condition is founded. And,the relationship between pH and weight-increase ratio is discovered. Also,the recycle and reuse of finishing liquid is studied.Moreover,study on the oligomer of maleic anhydride as non-formaldehyde finishing agent is carried out. The oligomer is synthesized by free radical polymerization and ion polymerization,and reaction mechanisms are conjectured . And also,some tentative research on the finishing properties of the oligomer is carried out.
