There are abundant tin resources in China. And among kinds of tin products, the artware of tin alloy yields a high added value and has a good market now, with a promising market in the future. But the production of the artware in China can't meet the requirement of market, for it has disadvantages of out-of-date forming processes and low production capacity. So it has much significance to apply modern processes and technologies to the production of tin alloy artware in China, for that is to improve its quality and develop its production capacity.Plaster casting is a modern precision casting process and has many advantages, such as the castings produced by it have high qualities and precision, and have no limit of structure, size and weight. So it is always used to produce precision castings, such as exquisite jewelry of gold and aluminium supercharger impeller used on airplane. When used to produce artware, it is suitable for the products of small quantity and abundant kinds.But there isn't any report in China up to now that plaster casting has ever been used to produce the tin alloy artware in which the mass percentage of tin is more than 95 or 99.9. This dissertation researches the tests of applying plaster casting to the forming of the artware made of the above-mentioned tin alJoy, based on the project "New Molding Processes and New Technologies Applied to "Chinese - Mottled Pewter" Artware", which was put forward by Yunnan Province Leading and Coordinating Group in charge of the cooperation between Yunnan Province and university or college, and has been carried out by Rong Hang Institute of Molding Processes of Zhe Jiang University and Ge Jiu Arts & Crafts Plant of Mottled Pewter.In general, the dissertation completes following work.1 . Based on analyzing the general technological processes of plaster casting, specific process flows are designed for two sample workpieces. And the technological analysis and design are completed for each model, including their structures, thicknesses, and the constructions and positions of gating systems on their plaster moulds.2. Based on analyzing some properties of eight kinds of fusible substances, the wax-based mixture is elected as the raw material for me investment pattern, considering the characteristics of the two models, the production capacity of equipment at present, the requirement of slurry for the investment pattern, and the characters of plaster mould. The ingredients of the above mixture are paraffin wax, stearic acid and beeswax. At the same time, two moulds used to make investment patterns are made.
