The available theories for amorphous form have been reviewed briefly. The scheme of Alonso et al has been used to predict the composition of amorphousness form for iron based binary alloys. The present results are in good agreement with the results obtained by other theories and the available experiments. This indicates that the theory of Alonso et al is reasonable in prediction of amorphousness form for binary alloys. The present results maybe in favour of the design and manufacture of amorphous alloys. This is no theory for amorphous ternary alloys. A new theory about ternary alloys has been proposed. The composition range of amorphous ternary alloys is obtained by competition between the free energy of the solid solution and the excess free energy of the amorphous or undercooled state. The present theory has been applied to investigate the composition range of amorphousness for ternary alloys such as Al-Ni-Ce, Mg-Ni-Ce and Al-W-Y. The calculated results reasonably have agreed with the available results of experiments. It indicates that the present theory is reasonable and can also be used in materials design for ternary amorphous alloys.
