In this paper, the stress field, strain field and temperature field of forward extrusion was numerically simulated with rigid-plastic finite element method (FEM) combined with thermodynamic couple numerical simulation.First , the basic thermodynamic couple RPFEM equations were deduced by means of combining the basic theory of RPFEM with that of thermodynamic couple. Furthermore, a quite accomplished , effective program system , based on the equations, was developed to simulate the stress field, strain field and temperature field of the forward extrusion deforming.Second, some key techniques of the numerical simulation, such as the disposal of the boundary conditions, the convergence criterion of iteration, the selection of starting velocities, the correction of velocities and temperatures, etc., were analyzed in this paper.In the end, the experiment method was exerted in the paper and its results were compared with the results from the FEM numerical simulation. And based on the comparison, analyses were processed. So the reliability of the program system of thermodynamic couple RPFEM numerical simulation was proved.
