The thesis consisted of two sections, and every section has two chapters.Section one mainly deals with the research work in the application of samarium diiodide and ytterbium in organic synthesis. It is divided into two chapters. In the first one, the application of samarium diiodide and ytterbium in recent years is reviewed. The second one is focus on the organic reactions promoted by samarium diiodide and ytterbium and their applications in organic synthesis. It includes three aspects:1. Samarium diiodide promoted reactions of disulfides with 2-imidazolidine-l-carbonyl chloride was studied, and 2-imidazoline-l-carbonyl thiolesters was firstly prepared in good yields under neutral and mild conditions respectively.2. Samarium diiodide promoted reactions of diselenides with 3-substiruted-2-imidazolidine-1-carbonyl chloride was studied, and 3-substituted-2-imidazoline-l-carboriyl selenoesters was firstly synthesized in good yields under neutral and mild conditions respectively.3. Ytterbium promoted reactions of disulfides (diselenides) with 3-substituted -2-imidazolidine-l-carbonyl chloride was studied, and 3-substituted-2-imidazoline-l-carbonyl thiolesters (selenoesters) was prepared in good yields under neutral and mild conditions respectively. The reaction is good in atomic economy. In section two, the synthetic method of 5-bromophthalide was studied. Firstly the preparation of 5-bromophthalide was reviewed. Then some improvement of present method was practised The total yield is increased from 17% to 25%.
