Animal husbandry has developed into an efficient and more intensive industry through the latter nineteen eighties. However it has many negative aspects, increasing the number of environmental problems (eg water and air pollution) that stem from the large quantities of manure produced within several intensively farmed regions.Beijing agriculture is a kind of city-suburb model, characterized by livestock farms that are large-scale and produce a great deal of manure. In particular, swine manure accounts for approximately 59% of all livestock manure per year. The ratio of treatment is no more than 10%.As a model-project on swine manure treatment in Beijing, the main purpose is to explore an effective,economical,energy-saving and multi-tiered approach to treat swine manure strictly according to the National Water Standard III to make waste water effluent. We attempt a new three-step treatment system, which includes solid-liquid separation, anaerobic treatment and aerobic treatment. The main feature is to make use of biological filter technology to treat swine manure. In the biofilter system,a new kind of filter material with an interactive surface area of up to 220m2/m3,durable,and with no need for reverse washing, was researched and developed. At present, researching and popularizing some new practical technology on swine manure is a very urgent task. The outcome of this project is with good use for reference and value of popularization.
