Siraitia Grosvenorii(Momordica grosvenori Swingle) which was scientifically called "bare fruit wood turtle",is a kind of fruit of a perennial straw plant,and is classified as a cucurbitaceous plant. Siraitia Grosvenorii's Roots are large,bitter and slightly in nature. They fulfill some pharmacological functions which is quenching evil heat,eliminating damp,activating the channels,relieving pain,relieving pain,relieving inflammation,easing pain,relaxing the musclar spasm,reducing enzyme and so on. Clinic trials proved that it's root outstandingly curative effect on rheumatoid arthritis. Besides,there is plenty of starch in its root,which has been not reported home or abrosd. In view of two aspects,I take up the experience on the extraction of the starch and medicinal components from Siraitia Grosvenorii's root. Some significant conclusions could be drawn as follows.(1) A kind of starch in good quality has been extracted and purified from Siraitia Grosvenorii's root by appropriate methods at the first time. The white degree of the starch is 94.5%. The grain of the starch is single grain and spherical. It has no obvious cricoid structure. The grain radii is at range of 6.7-13.3 n m. its average radii is 9.5 fj. m. Its paste temperature and transparence is 65-75 and 69.5%. In its hydrolysis liquid there is only a kind of reduction sugar called glucose. The kind of sugar is 3.87% in the starch. In the starch there is only 0.84% straight chain one and 99.16% branch chain one. The results show that there will be a promising market on both of edibles and the articles of everyday use.(2) The pharmacological experiment shows that the matter extracted from Siraitia Grosvenorii's root by means of water evidently affects varicose degree of white mouse's ear,and has a antiphlogistic function. At the same time,the matter extracted by water has been enriched through the column which is filled with big foveola resin,and the enrichment section has also obviously antiphlogistic function,however,the section has cause slightly diarrhetic effect on the white mouse.This research has been sponsored by the West Pacific Cancer Foundation,USA.(3) By comparison of extraction experiments used by diffirent kinds of solvents,Ethanol proved to be the suitable solvent for it can bring about the most medical effect and productivity derived from the roots of Siraitia Grosvenorii.(4) The results from the pharmacological experiment show that the matter D extracted from the enrichment section by means of alcohol have no evident effect on varicose degree for the white mouse's ear,but it have functions of catharsis and preserving skin.(5) It is evident on the basis of the qualitative analysis that the matter D contains triterpene compounds which belong to the category structure of cucurbitacins.(6) It is found by comparison of medicinal constituents extracted by different means of silica gel column,HPLC with single bump,HPLC with two bumps,that on the isolated effect side,HPLC with grads washing is best among these means. For the first time the new compound (I) has been isolated from the roots of Siraitia Grosvenorii by means of HPLC with grads washing. On the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence,this new compound (I) is a kind of new triterpenoid which one carbon displacement is lost,and which belongs to the structure of cucurbitacins. Apart from this,a kind of glucoside of which the unit contains the structure of benzene ring,was obtained from the roots of Siraitia Grosvenorii.
