The lubrication in nano-scale in the techniques of micro-machine,micro-motor and high-speed magnetic recording system is imperatively to be solved with the development of nano science and technology. Self-assembled molecular film is one of key techniques in nano-scale lubrication. It is a new way to develop lubricating oil additives with high efficiency and without pollution by using nano-particles as lubricating oil additives. The preparation,measure and tribological performance of ZnO nano-particles and octidecyltrichlorosilane(OTS) self-assembled molecular film is studied in this paper. The main conclusions are reached as followed.1. ZnO nano-particles was made from precursor Zn(Ac)2.2H2O through the method of sol-gel. The parameters for achieving the optimum technological conditions in making ZnO nano-particles were obtained by carefully observing the precursor concentration,amount of solvent and precipitants,the temperature on each stages and the behavior of reactors. Transmission elector microscopy was used to observe ZnO nano-particles. The results indicated that ZnO appeard in spherical powder of hexagonal struture with the range of 30nm-40nm.2.Tribological performances of ZnO nano-particles as lubricating oil additives were studied in friction and wear test machine. The results indicated that disperse of nano-particle cluster was key factor to use them as lubricating oil additives. Only with evenly-distributed cluster can the function of debasing wear and reducing friction be achieved.3.OTS self-assembled molecular films were prepared in the base of Si/SiO2. The effects of formation time and components of the solution on the topography of OTS self-assembled molecular films were mainly studied in the experiment. With observing the topography of different time period by AFM,the formation mechanism of five stages of OTS molecular film was concluded.4.Tribological characteristics of OTS self-assembled molecular film were studied by LFM. The effects of sliding velocity and load on frictional force were analyzed. The tribolgical characteristics of OTS molecular film in "island" formation stage changed acutely. There existed a "Platform" effect between the frictional force and the load for fine packed OTS self-assembled molecule film.
