Water is the basic natural resource and is also the strategic economy resource. Its shortage and pollution ask for strengthening the wastewater treatment. But our small and medium cities are short of applicable technology, capital and experiences in management, which makes it important to provide high efficiency, energy-saving and simple operational technology for wastewater treatment. In this paper, the trial run, the biological phosphorus removal, the separation of solid-liquid and the return of sludge on integrated oxidation ditch(IOD) with a side channel separator were studied in productive pilot. It aims to perfect and advance this technology, and make it more applicable for wastewater treatment in small and medium cities.Bacterial incubation, starting operation and process run were performed in Sishui wastewater treatment plant. The results demonstrate that IOD with a SCS has high capacity of overload, and starting operation is successful for high strength wastewater which is unstable in quality and quantity. The effluent can meet standard and is stable. F/M, nutrient and water temperature affect the effluent quality during starting operation. F/M is an important factor for control operation, and the better of it is 0.08KgBOD5/(KgMLVSS.d).The characteristic of biological phosphorus removal was studied from the configuration of IOD, operational mode and control parameters. The results demonstrate that the effect of biological phosphorus removal is good in IOD which has not isolated anaerobic section as long as environmental condition is agreeable and the alternating oxic, anaerobic, oxic conditions are controlled. The better of parameters of SRT, F/M,Np,BOD5/TP is 18d, 0.08KgBOD5/(KgMLVSS.d), 0.0025KgTP/(KgMLSS.d), 23 respectively. The SCS is a kind of solid-liquid separator with the high efficiency. The return sludge in medium section of SCS was not good. The measures were taken to modify and enhance the effect of solid-liquid separation and sludge return.
