The purpose of the present study was to prepare a new sorbent for adsorption of anion azo dyes. Firstly, a novel aminated chitosan microspheres was prepared from chitosan flake through inverse suspension cross-linking, hydroxylpropyl chloridization and amination. The results showed that under proper conditions, the basic capacity of novel aminated chitosan derivative was increased significantly. Secondly, evaluated the adsorption characteristic of aminated chitosan derivative for anion azo dyes from equilibrium adsorption and kinetics of adsorption. Moreover, studied the adsorpion mechanism. The results showed that equilibrium data fitted very well to the Langmuir model and dynamical data fitted well to the second-order kinetic model which indicates the chemical sorption is the rate-limiting step. The adsorption mechanism was shown to be 'the electrostatic interactions between the anion azo dyes and aminated chitosan microspheres. Finally, comparedthe adsorption characteristic of aminated chitosan microspheres and activated carbon , the data showed the former to have high adsorption capacity, fast decolorized efficiency. In addition, as sorbent, chitosan microspheres has a good abitity of separation and regeneration. These virtue make aminated chitosan microspheres to be a new sorbent for anion azo dyes .
