Study on Thermoplastic and Degradable Cassava Starch MaterialPreparation of thermoplastic and degradable cassava starch material was carried out by grafting vinyl acetate (VAc) and methyl acrylate (MA) onto cassava starch. The best reaction conditions, mechanical and degradable properties of the material were studied The structure of the material was investigated by IR, and the theimoplasticity was studied by DSC.The effect of the factors on graft copolymerization was analyzed by using the statistical anlysis of orthogonal experiment On condition that ammonium persulfate (APS) as initiator, VAc added by prepolymerizating, MA by dropping, the optimum reaction conditions were as follows: APS concentration was 16mmol/1, monomers concentration was 1.16molA, the mass ratio of YAc to MA was 1, reaction temperature was 65 C, reaction time was 3 hours.IR spectrum proved that the monomers VAc and MA had been really grafted onto cassava starch. Modified cassava starch had been improved in thermoplasticity. It also had good mechanical and degradable properties.
