The fluorescent whitening agents of 4,4'-Distyrylbiphenyl series has high-effect property. Above all it was invented and produced by Helvetic Ciba-Geigy company. From produced to now, it is sell well always. Because its production technology was monopolied in long-term by Ciba-Geigy company, its price is expensive. But due to its very good property, so it always be used to the production of high-grad products.As a result of the china's entry into WTO, Chinese textile,detergent and plastic industries will speedily develop, and the demand of fluorescent whitening agents(for short FWA) will further increase. But at present the internal study of FWA not made progressing and lack high-grad products in the internal market, the 4,4'-Distyrylbiphenyl series FWA mainly relied on import. So the research how synthesizes the distyrybiphenyl compounds have important meaning.This paper has reviewed the synthesis method of distyrybiphenyl compounds in recent years, and analyzed their merits as well as shortcomings and feasibility. Finally the Wittig-Horner reaction was selected as the fundamental reaction of synthesis. The best technology condition was formed by studying these factors affecting the reaction and improving the condition of reaction, put forward a new method of reaction in the Wittig reagent' synthesis. Four fluorescent compounds of distyrybiphenyl were synthesized, and better result was obtained. Simultaneously, the some intermediates had been studied also...
