World-wide efforts to inhibit the use of chlorofluorocarbons have stimulated the development of the new-type solid-vapor adsorption-refrigeration systems. Yet so far, solid-vapor adsorption systems have still been under lab stage because of the technique obstacles of adsorbent bed. One of the most promising developments in recent years is the advanced adsorbent/adsorbate pairs, SC-9/water, developed by the UOP company, which has excellent adsorptive performances capable of improving the adsorption system significantly. To make an all-round estimation of the advanced working pair and apply it to practical adsorption systems, we delve the adsorption refrigeration cycle both from experimental investigation and theoretical analysis complying with following logic line?experimental investigation on the adsorption performances of SC-9/Water pairs-measurements on thermodynamic properties of SC-9-thermodynamic analysis of advanced cycles-numerical simulation of adsorption process with coating-adsorbent".1. The adsorption performances of the coating-adsorbent, SC-9, have been measured under typical operating conditions and compared with the traditional synthetic zeolite 13X. The specific surface area and the mass diffusion coefficient of this novel material have been deduced from the adsorptive isotherms according to the BET and diffusion theory. The thermal conductivity of the SC-9 in dry state has been measured and deduced from a theoretical model, the real thermal conductivity in humid atmosphere has been calculated.2. Considering the fundamental significance of advanced adsorption cycle, detailed thermodynamic analysis based on the energy balance has been made for simple-cycle, regenerative cycles and the novel regeneration cycle with thermal wave and mass recovery. As an example, the peculiarities of three kinds of cycles with different operating parameters have been studied and compared with each other.
